When looking towards your future and what type of company you want to work for, here are a few things that can help get you on the right track.
There are many different sectors of Public Relations that a PR practitioner can work in. A few are Business to Business, Not-for-Profit, Public, Private, Music and Entertainment, and Fashion, and the list goes on. Find which sector will be the best fit for you and start there. Once you figure this out you can start following companies in these sectors in the media and on their social media platforms to find out what types of employees they are looking for
2. What things are important to you? What are your interests?
Marc Anthony said, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” After you find the sector that interests you, look at the companies within that sector and find one that is involved with a cause that you have a passion for. You can work for a human rights organization, a company that focuses on animal rights, environmental issues, and more. Whatever interests you can be a part of your daily career.
3. What are your priorities?
You can work as little or as much as you would like, whatever fits into you lifestyle. The important part is finding the company that fits with your priorities. The majority of Public Relations jobs require you to be “connected” a lot of the time, especially the higher you get in the company. However, there are exceptions to everything, so keep looking to find the job that is right for you.
There are many more factors that you personally need to look at when finding your perfect job, however start with these and the rest will fall into place.
