‘Tis the season to eat tacos; Ferris State PR celebrates the holiday season with a joyous night of food, fun, ugly sweaters and secret gifts.
This year Festivus took place in the University Park Suites club house where there was ample opportunity to spread Festivus joy. Everyone arrived eager to show off their hideous apparel and devourer the tacos and treats.
The night began with tacos by the pre-recorded fire. PR peeps travelled from all around Big Rapids to join together in merriment. Once stomachs were stuffed with treats, everyone competed to decorate their #prpeep tree. Calsie Penzien took home the honor of being the best tree of the night, decorated (expertly) by Olivia Adams, Jessica McLean, and Amy Hughes. Next gifts were exchanged and the identities of “Secret Santas” were revealed. The gifts were all very thoughtful (everyone must have been good this year); there was just enough time to craft ordainments with glitter and glue.
“I enjoy everything about Festivus — from the planning to the decorating, to getting to spend time with the other members of our PRSSA family! This was my last Festivus and it was one of my favorites. The food was delicious, the ugly sweater contest was fun, and decorating ornaments was a blast,” said PRSSA senior, Amy Hughes. “Having events like Festivus allows us to develop stronger bonds and get to know each other outside of a classroom setting. This year we did a few group activities and put our teamwork skills to use!”
The infamous ugly sweater competition was full of creative (and somewhat hideous) outfits. Amy Bardell won the vote with her head-to-toe holiday ornamental fashion
We owe this wonderful event to the hard-working planning committee, Internal Relations. “My goal for the event was to make it fun; make it something that everyone did have to go to but also wanted to go to. I really want people to enjoy themselves because in the end PRSSA is a huge family,” said Kate McPhee, one of the PRSSA members that helped plan Festivus.
Behind the scenes the Internal Relations team brought all of these festivities together. Betsy Garbe, Kate McPhee, Kate Pretty, Brandy Solberg, Amy Hughes, and Matt Main were a few of the key players in this successful production. They have been working on the event all semester. McPhee said, “My favorite part about planning it was definitely the people who I was working with. We came up with so many cool and different ideas that it was hard to pick only a few.”
Overall, Festivus was the perfect way to kick off the holiday season.
