Ahh, summer. The smell of fresh cut grass underneath your feet, tubing down the Muskegon River, and cruising with the windows down playing fresh summer beats.
But I’m missing something. It’s probably the biggest part of my summer. No, I’m not talking about the hours of gameplay I’ve already put into Animal Crossing New Leaf (although admittedly I have spent so much time playing that game I may soon try talking to animals.) I’m talking about something way more life changing than a video game. I’m talking about my internship with Michigan’s number one PR firm Truscott Rossman!
My experiences with Truscott Rossman have been vast and incredible and I’ve only been on the team a month. Within my first week I made a program for the first ever Failure-Lab. Then in my second week I was asked to make a video for an event Truscott Rossman hosts in Grand Rapids called TRdigital (that’s pronounced “trə-dij-i-tl”). In my third week, I attended a rooftop re-launch for Grand Rapids business incubator GR Current. Now in my fourth week I’ve hit the ground running making a set of infographics for a client.
Besides those big highlights, I’ve done research for clients looking to speak to target audiences all over Michigan. I’ve attended multiple intern networking events, including a movie and a mixer where I got to see The Internship (predictable but funny and a great way to be introduced to Google) in theatres with fellow interns from around Grand Rapids. I met a bunch of great people and have nearly doubled my connections in Grand Rapids.
My first month was spent driving twice a week from Big Rapids to Grand Rapids and burning a great deal of gas in the process. Luckily, my boss Amanda is a very understanding soul and actually offered for me to intern from my apartment in Big Rapids every Tuesday and Thursday for the remainder of the summer. Talk about a game changer! Not only am I getting the experience of a lifetime, but it’s costing me practically nothing out of pocket anymore to do it!
Overall, I can’t complain about my time with Truscott Rossman. That’s an understatement. I can do nothing but brag about how awesome this firm is. They’ve worked me hard, but hard work is what I signed up for when I accepted this internship. It’s exactly what I wanted and there’s nothing about this that I would change. The experience so far has blown me away and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer has to offer. Hopefully yours is just as exciting.
