Mmmm, Starbucks. Whether you like it black, with cream and sugar, or prefer tea instead, there is something about that green mermaid, a globally known logo, that has helped the coffee industry grow to a revenue of over $10 billion a year. Not only is it a staple in the hot-formed-caffeine world, but it seems to be stapled to the hands of our students at Ferris State University.
The average price for a cup of Starbucks coffee or espresso can be pricey compared to other brands such as fast-food-chains like McDonald’s and Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, and convenience stores or gas stations. A cup of coffee at McDonald’s is a buck for any size, where you can be paying for a small at Starbucks for double the price – or more if you’re in a large urban area! I walk around the College of Business every day, and for every 20 cups of Starbucks I see cradled in the hands of passerby’s, I maybe see one from McDonalds.
As far as us #PRpeeps go, we love fun brands and love our convenience. We’re always thrown through a loop with a client or assignment, so when things go our way, it’s a real treat. To have a coffee shop right in the middle of our building is not only convenient, but that little green mermaid is a symbol – a symbol of energy, feeling good, and ready to take on our next hurdle. A cup of McDonalds coffee just means we had time to find a parking spot on campus this morning.
My tips for fellow #PRpeeps, and Starbucks enthusiasts:
- Get a gift card, register it on your phone (or online), and get rewarded! With every purchase at Starbucks (coffee, food, merchandise, whatever), you earn a star (30 stars will get you a special gold card). When you have a registered card, you earn free coffee/tea refills while you’re at Starbucks, special offers sent to your e-mail, and a free drink (any size with any add-ons!) or food item on your birthday. - I preferably like to start my day with something sweet and full of espresso. I recommend a caffé mocha, vanilla latte, or their seasonal pumpkin spice or caramel brulée latte. Don’t forget, you can always substitute for soy options! When it’s made on the spot, custom for you, you get to decide how you want your drink.
- Looking for something cold? My all-time favorite drink is a Passion Tea Lemonade, but you have to ask for light ice or else it waters down quickly and you don’t get as much. Their frappacinos are also delicious (coffee blended with ice), and come in non-coffee flavors like vanilla bean or chocolate chip.
Whether it’s hot, cold, made with soy milk, or it’s just an Ethos water from the store’s cooler, Starbucks is definitely one of those things that #PRpeeps love
