The Vagina Monologues was on February 24, 2012 at 7p.m. in Williams Auditorium. The Vagina Monologues benefits WISE, INC, a local non-profit in the Big Rapids Community. Ferris PR was approached by Jamie Burkle, 2012 Director, to help with promotional material.
The Vagina Monologue team included: Senior Jordynn Barnes, Junior Liz Michalski, Sophomore Christie Bender and Sophomore Alexa Donakowski. The team was in charge of creating posters, pluggers, buttons, program , Twitter, pitch to Torch, press release to Pioneer, Facebook and foursquare.
Students appeared throughout the show portraying topics such as rape, batter, incest, female genital mutilation and sex slavery while expressing their sexuality and strength in a graceful and humorous way. The production is based on interviews from over 200 women.
Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues is part of V-Day’s global movement to raise awareness and spirits while collecting donations in the fight against violence.
This is the ninth year Ferris State University has participated in the Vagina Monologues. Each year participation has increased as students participate in spreading V-Day’s Message.
Roughly 300 people attended the event and overall it was a successful night. Ferris State PR hopes to have the opportunity to work with the Vagina Monologues in the future. Currently, they are not a continuous client.
